Thank you,
Jesse and Lesle
Installation of camera with transformer.
Not picture but installation of fan with heater and light in bathroom.
Having a carport/storage shed(16'X24') I needed to have the power line raised from pole to house(County Code).
They were prompt on the day of work. They noticed somethings that needed to be brought up to code. They explained what needed to be done, the way they were going to do it and the cost.
I noticed the pictures are not in order. SMUD disconnecting the power line, the electrician installing the raiser, SMUD connecting the power line to utility box.
What was to be expected was the wait for SMUD, the county and SMUD. In this kind of work you are on their schedule and not the other way around.
The electricians did their work on a timely basis.
I continue to call them for an electrical work and ethernet connection.
County inspector after passing inspection on footing and forms suggested that I have a ground rebar installed.
I contacted OldTown Electric Inc. who I had previously made arrangements to run a power line along with two cables for security cameras an Ethernet line to the storage shed part of the structure.
They were prompt, professional and courteous.
Main Panel Upgrades in Sacramento
Most Sacramento homes built before 1990 are running 100-amp service — panels that were never designed to handle EV chargers, heat pumps, or modern appliance loads. A 200-amp panel upgrade gives your home the capacity it needs today and room to grow. We handle the full scope: disconnect, new panel, circuit reconnection, utility coordination, permit, and inspection. Most upgrades are done in one day with power restored the same evening.

Circuit Breaker Replacement & Repair
A breaker that trips repeatedly, won’t reset, or feels warm to the touch isn’t doing its job — it’s a warning sign. We replace worn, faulty, or undersized breakers with code-compliant units sized correctly for your circuits. If the issue is with the panel itself rather than an individual breaker, we’ll tell you honestly — no upselling, no unnecessary work.
Electrical Panel Diagnostics & Inspection
Not sure what’s wrong — just know something isn’t right? We perform thorough panel inspections that identify overheating, loose wiring, double-tapped breakers, corrosion, and outdated components before they become emergencies. Every diagnostic visit includes a clear written summary of what we found and what it will cost to fix it.
Subpanel Installation in Sacramento
Adding a detached garage, workshop, ADU, or backyard structure? A subpanel is the clean, code-compliant way to deliver dedicated 240V power to that space without overloading your main panel. We run the feeder, install the subpanel, and pull the permit — all in one visit for most residential jobs.

Surge Protection Integration
A whole-home surge protector installs directly at your panel and shields every circuit in the house from voltage spikes — including the ones that fry appliances silently over time. Given Sacramento’s summer heat and the stress it puts on the grid, whole-home surge protection is one of the highest-value additions we install. We include it as an add-on to most panel upgrades for a straightforward upcharge.
Grounding & Bonding
Improper grounding is one of the most common code violations we find in Sacramento’s older housing stock — and one of the most dangerous. We inspect, repair, and upgrade grounding systems to meet NEC 2023 requirements, reducing shock risk and ensuring your home passes inspection during sale or renovation permitting.
Emergency Electrical Panel Repairs
Burning smell from your panel, breakers that won’t hold, or a complete loss of power to part of your home — these aren’t problems to wait on. We provide fast-response emergency panel repairs in Sacramento. Call us and we’ll get someone to your property as quickly as possible to diagnose and stabilize the situation safely.

Panel Upgrades for EV Chargers & Solar Readiness
Installing a Level 2 EV charger or adding solar panels almost always requires a panel assessment first — and often an upgrade. We coordinate electrical panel work alongside EV charger installations so you only need one contractor for both. If you’re planning for solar or battery storage, we can size and configure your panel upgrade to accommodate future loads from day one.

Why Sacramento Homeowners Choose OldTown Electric for Panel Work
- Licensed, Insured & Sacramento-Based. CA Lic. #1099728. We’re a local contractor — not a national franchise — which means we know Sacramento’s permit offices, SMUD service territory requirements, and the specific panel issues common in the area’s 1960s–1990s housing stock.
- We Pull the Permit. Full Stop. Every panel upgrade we complete is permitted through the City of Sacramento or the appropriate county jurisdiction, and we schedule the inspection. No unpermitted work, no liability left on your property, no problems at resale.
- Flat-Rate Pricing — Written Before We Start. You get a detailed written estimate before we touch your panel. The price doesn’t change unless the scope changes — and if something unexpected comes up, we’ll tell you before we proceed. 200+ Sacramento customers have held us to that.
- One Crew, Start to Finish. The electricians who assess your panel are the same ones who do the upgrade. No subcontracting, no handoffs, no “that wasn’t in my scope.” You have one point of contact from the first call through the final inspection sign-off.
- Done in a Day. Most residential panel upgrades — including permit coordination and utility notification — are completed in a single visit. We show up when we say we will, work clean, and restore your power the same day.
- 4.9 Stars, 165+ Reviews. Our reputation is built on doing exactly what we quoted, showing up on time, and leaving the job site clean. If something isn’t right, we make it right — no runaround.

Our Recent Projects
A standard 200-amp main panel upgrade in Sacramento typically runs between $2,000 and $4,000 all-in — including the new panel, all circuit reconnections, permit, and inspection. Factors that move the price include whether your meter base needs updating (required by SMUD in some cases), the condition of existing wiring, and whether any circuits need to be added or reconfigured. Subpanel installs for detached structures typically run $800–$2,000 depending on distance and feeder size. The best way to get your real number is a free on-site estimate — call (916) 307-0990 or → request one here.
Yes — always. In the City of Sacramento and unincorporated Sacramento County, panel upgrades and subpanel installs require an electrical permit and a final inspection by the local building department. Skipping the permit creates real exposure: it can void your homeowner's insurance for any fire-related claim, flag as an unpermitted improvement during a home sale, and leave you liable if something goes wrong. We pull the permit on every job we do — it's built into your quote, not an add-on.
If you're experiencing frequent breaker trips, adding a major new load (EV charger, hot tub, HVAC system), or your panel is more than 25–30 years old, an upgrade is usually the right call. If the issue is isolated — one faulty breaker, a loose connection, a wiring fault — a targeted repair may be all you need. We won't recommend a full upgrade if a repair will solve the problem. We'll tell you what we find and give you the options, in plain language, before any work begins.
Most residential 200-amp panel upgrades take 6–8 hours from start to power restoration. Your home will be without power during the work, so we schedule early starts and work efficiently to minimize downtime. Panel replacements involving meter base upgrades or SMUD coordination may require an additional utility appointment, which we handle and schedule on your behalf.
